James, I wasn't in any way taking it personally and while I agree there shouldn't be restrictions on style etc what I'm suggesting is that people aren't aware of this etiquette - i have never seen it written anywhere for me to refer to. I only found out about Trackbacks recently. There's a gap you see in "how to set up a blog" and "how to blog". Ach I could go on and on about it but I reckon I'd end up coming around to your point of view in time anyways!

EirePreneur, as a starting blogger, I have to admit I'm afraid of breaching blogging "etiquette" by simply not knowing it's the right thing to do! Sometimes I will post something that I then find already posted on someone else's blog but because it wouldn't actually be genuine of me to say "Oh I found this on x's blog" I don't. If I do find something cool - a story, a link, a you tube video on someone's site, I do link to them to say where it's from, but even then I'm not 100% sure I've done it properly or in the "right way".
One of the things I'm interested in is finding out what people should be doing blogwise and how they should be doing it. One of the perceived barriers to blogging or to joining the blogging community (especially from the "Irish" aspect) is the fear you'll unwittingly make a mess of it and be attacked from all angles, where in fact it was just a mistake through ignorance.
I really think there's so many people out there who'd benefit from it.
